THE CELEBRATIONS
Vol. 56, No. 56 June 11, 2008 Vision Statement We are building on our heritage and approaching the future with a vision relevant to our changing world while creating an atmosphere where Christ can bring healing, hope, and joy to all.
This past week has been quite exciting. Joanne and I have been feeling a bit like road warriors. After finishing our vacation and driving back to Evansville from Rochester, NY we went with the Come Double Class on their field trip. What a great time we had. We started with lunch at Patti’s in Grand Rivers, KY and I learned what a “Hot Brown” is. You can’t get one of those in New York. Next was a trip to Beaver Lodge on Lake Barkley, always a very beautiful place to visit and a great place to be with friends. Our final stop before the trip home was the Adsmore House in Princeton, KY. There we took a tour of the home and learned how the family would have celebrated the wedding of their daughter in 1907. That probably would have been enough travel for a while but that was also the week of M.A.D. (Media, Music, Arts and Drama) Camp at Indian Creek Baptist Camp. I wanted to see the camp, so a visit to the camp directed by Joannie Smith and with several members of First Baptist there as both campers and counselors, seemed to be the best time to go. Let me say that this is a beautiful camp and a great resource. The programs and the facilities are wonderful. As this is your camp, you really should have a chance to see this facility, so here is an opportunity. July 5-11 our youth were planning to go to Estes Park Colorado to a National ABC Youth gathering. Since they were not able to raise sufficient funds for this, they have decided to travel to Indian Creek Baptist Camp and help out with some projects that need attention there. You can join them. You can come for a day or the week or whatever best meets your schedule. There will be enough beds and food for anyone who wants to help and jobs that can make use of any skills or lack thereof that you might bring. If there are some of you who would like to see the camp but feel you are not physically able to perform any service, please let me know. If there is enough interest we might be able to arrange for a day trip that would include lunch and a tour of the camp. This is your camp and your opportunity to see this important ministry of our region and our church.Angel Food Ministry is off to a good start with over 100 units ordered for our first month! We will need volunteers for distribution day, June 21st, if you would like to help call the church office or our site coordinator, Joanne Huffsmith (303-4146). The Leadership Council recommends that the membership approve the following amendment to the last paragraph of the By-Laws, Article II, Section B, The Endowment Fund Team. This proposed amendment will be voted upon at the July 6, 2008 business meeting. Proposed changes are in boldface italics.
The money directed to The Endowment Fund shall
include all gifts designated by the donor and no less than
Beginning on January 1, 2012, The Endowment Fund shall receive no less than 75% of all undesignated gifts from estates.
FAMILY LIFE CENTER - - Due to your generosity we have collected $1,545 toward the $7,000 debt for the A/C unit. Your help is still needed, please write a check and place it in the offering plate or mail it. Annotating “FLC A/C Unit”.
FOOD PANTRY TABLE - - Support FBC by providing non-perishable food items each time you come to the church for a donation to Patchwork Central to help those in need.

VALET SERVICE provided on Sunday mornings 9:00am to 9:30am, just pull up to the canopy on the 4th street side of the church. Someone will greet you there, park your car, bring the keys to you and let you know where the car is parked. After worship service, at your request, the car will be pulled back around to the 4th street side.
PAMPERED CHEF PARTY Youth Fundraiser June 14th at 10:00 am in the fellowship hall. Everyone is invited, bring friends, refreshments and lots of good fellowship.
POWER LAB IS COMING! July 21-23, 9:00am to Noon. It's time to volunteer to help in Power Lab 2008 VBS at FBC. There are jobs for you for any skill level or interest. You can sign up on the poster in the hallway, on the bulletin insert, or by going to our new VBS website within our church website - - - You can also enroll your children at the website. Angel Food Ministries ‘A Food Ministry with a Servant’s Heart” High Quality Food/Low Cost No Income Restrictions No Guidelines Something for Everyone If you Eat You Qualify In our first month of being a church host site for Angel Food Ministries we have collected 106 units of food orders. Thanks to everyone who ordered and or gathered orders. Please see the enclosed Angel Food Ministries July menu flyer. We will be in need of volunteers on June 21st to help with the distribution of food at the Family Life Center. There will be a sign-up sheet in the church lobby. THE SUMMER SINGERS are doing a wonderful job of sharing worship music. If you are singing with us, please try to be in the choir room by 10:15 so we'll have plenty of time to polish the day's anthem. Thank you for your willingness to serve!

FBC MIDDLE SCHOOLERS MISSIONARIES Our FBC Middle Schoolers will become Evansville missionaries on June 22-24th on the 2nd Middle School Mission Tour. They will be following Jesus’ example of serving others when they come to homes to work. With adult supervision, they will rake, trim bushes and trees, weed, wash windows, paint, haul, mulch, clean and just about anything else that you need. No money or donations will be accepted, they will just be there to serve. If you have a job that you would like some help with, please call Joannie Smith at 985-7555.
