THE CELEBRATIONS
Vol. 56, No. 53 April 30, 2008 Vision Statement We are building on our heritage and approaching the future with a vision relevant to our changing world while creating an atmosphere where Christ can bring healing, hope, and joy to all.
I want to say that I could not have been more pleased with the way the Installation Service went. I want to thank the Transition Team for all their work and planning, for designing and sending invitations, for inviting special guests, for saying yes whenever something needed to be done, and for underwriting the cost of the banquet (with the help of some others). I want to thank the choir and soloist who stepped up to the plate when asked to sing “Siahamba” and realized it was not all in English and provided a beautiful musical program. I want to thank those who set up the fellowship hall for the banquet, set out the decorations and trained the wait staff. The whole event was wonderful!! I was grateful that my Mom and Dad, that our children, and Rev. Ralph Wagner and his wife Susan were here. They all commented on how welcomed and at home they felt and how wonderfully exciting First Baptist Evansville is. I am energized and excited and looking forward to what is ahead for us as we serve God together. Any plans for Mother’s Day? We want to start the day off right and I have recruited an all male crew to make breakfast that morning for all the Mothers and Daughters of the church. You are encouraged to invite and bring with you any women that you wish to join us for this breakfast. Breakfast is at 8:30am and will be served in the Fellowship Hall. All women are welcome to come but are asked to stay out of the kitchen that morning. Sunday Morning Worship will be very special that day. The children of the church will be presenting a very special musical program “We Can Praise”. Preaching that morning will be Emily Farmer Slade who will be entering her Senior Year at Duke Divinity School where she is studying to go into ordained ministry. The place to be May 11th is right here at First Baptist. So thank you for your support and thank you for your prayers. Joanne and I both are so very thankful for all the things you do for us and all the things you do to serve God here at First Baptist.
Grace and Peace, FOOD PANTRY TABLE If you’re coming to the church for any reason through-out the week, bring a non-perishable food item and put it on one of the tables in the Sanctuary. The food items are taken to Patchwork Central which distributes it to those in need. Hunger is not a seasonal or random thing, it’s an on going thing. FBC CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
PRIMETIME WEDNESDAYS All children and youth are invited to join us on PrimeTime Wednesdays. Children from Kindergarten to 5th grade are welcome in our Children’s Choir as they begin work on their spring musical. (When EVSC is closed, our youth activities are cancelled.) Adult choir, as always, begins at 7:00pm. Everyone welcome!

SOCCER SHAK SEASON It’s time for the spring Soccer Shak Season. Our youth group provides concessions for the soccer teams that plan on Vann Avenue each Spring and Fall. The 6-week season begins on April 7th. We need volunteers to help us staff the Soccer Shak each day. Volunteers can sign up on the poster in the lobby. This is a great way to support the youth group and have fun!
THE FBC MEN ARE COOKING THE MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST TO HONOR ALL WOMEN OF FBC MAY 11TH AT 8:30AM.
FBC is looking for an ANGEL to help us renew our license for showing movies. FBC needs someone to underwrite the license at the cost of $187.00 a year. If this doesn’t happen, FBC can no longer have the “free movie nights”. Contact the Church Office at 425-8296 if you want to help out.
ANGEL FOOD MINISTRIES FBC is endeavoring to venture into an event that will be of benefit to church members and friends of FBC. We would like to know how many people would be interested in this event. FBC would receive $1.00 for every order sold to use as a fundraiser. It’s called Angel Food Ministries; you order a REGULAR BOX for $30, pay in advance and it’s delivered on a specific day. After your first order you get a flyer in the mail giving you a list of what items are available for the next month. They also have specials you can order for an additional fee. We would like for you to respond, if you are interested, by calling the church office. It will take us 6 weeks to be a sponsor. The following is a list of foods that is available for the May order.
